The 2011 Carl VanDuyne Memorial High Performance C420 and i420 Clinic will again be hosted by American Yacht Club over Memorial Day weekend (May 28, 29, 30).
This clinic, held in C420s and i420s, is intended for experienced racing sailors age 15-19 years old who have demonstrated success in either boat and are committed to competing at the national and international level.
This will be an intense, high-level clinic for advanced sailors. Training session will be run by experienced Olympic and World Championship level coaches.
The clinic program will consist of morning physical training, shore discussions and on-the-water training covering rigging, tuning, tactics, boat handling, sail trimming and boat speed. The clinic will extend into the evening with chalk talks and rules discussions. Sailors should bring running shoes and clothing suitable for physical fitness.
Sailors should be in good physical shape and must be able manage long days in potentially chilly and windy weather.
Space is limited to 12 I420s and 15 C420s.
Sailors need to bring their own boats, sails and equipment. A small number of C420 charters may be available (for an additional fee).
Clinic fees and the coaching roster will be posted shortly (consistent with past LISOT clinics).
Travel and Housing
Sailors should fly into LGA (or JFK or EWR). Sailors will need to be able to fly as adults and must be capable of independent travel. Teams should arrange to arrive and set up their boats on Friday afternoon/evening, May 27. Late arrival after Saturday morning, or early departure is strongly discouraged. The clinic will conclude Monday, Memorial Day, by 1600 hours, with time to pack up and/or catch evening flights to West coast.
Housing may be available for out-of-town sailors, upon request.
