After two days and 5 races the scores at the C420 National Championship are extremely close. A number of LISOT teams are in contention.
Racing concludes today and after the 6th race is completed the sailors will get a throwout – further compressing the fleet.

LISOT Optimist Head Coach, Pepe Bettini, finished 5th at the 29er Worlds in Riva Del Garda, Italy. A very windy regatta, the top boats sailed heavy with Pepe and crew being the lightest by far.

The summer is in full swing now and so are LISOT sailors. Training and events continue to keep LISOT sailors busy. Here are just some of the class highlights for the last week and the week ahead:

Ida Lewis Trophy, July 6-11, Hampton, VA (Club 420)
Straight off the US Youth Championship LISOT had 8 very successful teams at the US Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship (Ida Lewis Trophy). LISOT teams were 5 of the first 7 in the 37 boat fleet. Congratulations to the winners Chanel Miller & Yuri Namikawa.

LASER RADIAL
The LISOT Laser Radial group is in training mode working toward the Laser Nationals in Brant Beach, NJ in August. 2008 Swedish Laser Olympian, Rasmus Myrgren, has been working with sailors at clinics at the Old Cove Yacht Club in Cutchogue, NY. This past weekend, July 11 & 12, LISOT sailors dominated the District 8 Old Cove Regatta with Ryan Schmitz 1st, Spencer Olsson 2nd and Connor Needham 3rd.
This coming weekend, July 18 & 19, LISOT sponsors another Rasmus Myrgren clinic at Old Cove YC and there is another District 8 regatta at the Southold YC. District 8 results can be found at http://laserd8.tripod.com/news.htm
Congratulations to LISOT sailors Connor Needham and Stefan Kuehn for finishing 1st and 2nd at their recent US Sailing Smythe regional elminations. Both will be attending the Area B Semi-finals for the Smythe. Note that the Smythe is sailed in Full rig lasers.
OPTIMISTS
LISOT optimist sailors have been recharging batteries after training with coaches Pepe Bettini & Rasmus Myrgren and competing internationally in the Dominican Republic, Slovenia & Belgium.
This week the team is preparing for the upcoming USODA Team Race Nationals, USODA Girls Nationals and USODA National Championship at Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club in San Pedro, CA. LISOT will have two team in the Team Race Nationals that run July 18-21. They are:
