LISOT News #3 - Wow It Has Been Busy

Since the last report LISOT sailors have been on the road and collecting a lot of silver around the world. LISOT sailors have been to California, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, France and Italy and just finished up in Michigan, Hungary & Scotland. It's been a busy month.

While all the results are great, here are a few highlights:

LISOT finished 4th & 9th at USODA Team Race Nationals
LISOT girls finished 5 of top 10 at USODA Girls Nationals including 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th and 10th
LISOT finished 7 of the top 25 at USODA Nationals
LISOT finished 4 of the top 25 at the USODA New England Championship including 2nd, 5th and 11th
LISOT finished 8th and top girl at the British Optimist Nationals

LISOT finished 7 of the top 10 at Club 420 Nationals including 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th & 10th (C420)
LISOT finished 7 of the top 10 at the Hyannis Regatta including 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th & 10th (C420)
LISOT placed three teams in the first 8 at the CJ Buckley Team Race for the Club 420 National Junior Team Race Championship (C420)
LISOT finished 5 of the top 10 at the Buzzards Bay Regatta including 1st, 3rd, 6th, 9th & 10th (C420)

LISOT finished 4th and 5th at the Hyannis Regatta (Laser Radial)
For the first time LISOT supported sailors at the Laser Nationals placing 1 sailor in the top 25 of the Laser Radial division and 5th in the Laser 4.7

USODA New England Championships - August 4-6, Sail Newport, Newport, RI
Harry Koeppel led a strong LISOT team of 20 sailors by finishing a close second to Andy Widmeier (who has sailed with LISOT in the past) - for Full Results click here

C420 Nationals - July 27-29, Fort Getty, Jamestown, RI
The LISOT teams of Edegran/Mark and Whitmyer/Storck came close but narrowly missed beating Johnstone/DaSilva in the 152 boat C420 Nationals. LISOT really stood out in the Youth and Girls divisions taking 1st through 4th in the Youth Division (crews under 17) and 1st through 5th in the Girls Division. For full results click here

Hyannis Regatta - July 31-August 2, Hyannis YC, Hyannis, MA
This 9 race series featured the full variety of conditions showing why LISOT puts the event on the schedule. LISOT sailors were up to the task and completely dominated the fleet. The LISOT teams of Lutz/DaSilva, Lambert/Doherty and Landy/Murphy took the top three spots. For full results click here

CJ Buckley Team Race for the Club 420 National Junior Team Race Championship, August 3-5, E Greenwich, RI
University of Vermont coach Justin Assad put on a great event and the sailors were completely exhausted each night. This team racing event was very high school and college like without trapezes and spinnakers but the sailors had a great time anyway. Buzzards Bay Regatta - August 7-9, New Bedford, MA
The finale of the summer C420 season in New England was the Buzzards Bay Regatta. This event always attracts 120+ boats and this featured the full variety of conditions. Deidre Lambert and Tracy Doherty continued their outstanding string of events with a solid win. Full results click here

C420 North Americans - August 13-16, Macatawa Bay YC, Macatawa, MI
LISOT's C420 sailors concluded the summer regatta circuit at the North American Championship in Macatawa, MI. Taylor Canfield and Stephanie Roble took the title convincingly however the LISOT teams of Marlena Fauer & Christina Lewis and Deirdre Lambert & Tracy Doherty also stood out from the pack in 2nd and 3rd. 7 other LISOT teams finished in the first 15. In its inaugural summer, the LISOT Laser group returned from the North Americans (see News #1) to spend the month of July preparing for the Laser Nationals at Brant Beach Yacht Club, Brant Beach, NJ on August 7th-9th. Swedish Olympian Rasmus Myrgren and past Laser Radial National Champion Jeff Bonanni worked our sailors hard, with great results from our young radials. We had 1 sailor in the top 25 of the 142 boat Laser Radial fleet and one in the top five of the 26 boat 4.7 fleet. For complete results see

I420 Worlds - July 27 - August 5, Riva del Garda, Italy
Many current and past LISOT sailors made up the 2009 I420 USA World Team. Americans Judge Ryan and Chris Segerblom sailed very well to finish 11th. Male and female teams sailed in separate fleets. Full results are available here

Optimist British Nationals - Aug 9-14, Largs Sailing Club, Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland
Team USA made a great showing at the 2009 British Nationals in Scotland with Roger Dorr leading the way for Team USA with a 3rd overall and LISOT's Megan Grapengeter-Rudnick the top girl and 8th overall. Full results are available here

I420 Junior Europeans - Aug 8-16, Lake Balaton, Hungary
Five of the seven teams of the USA Junior European team were from LISOT. LISOT sailors included Markus Edegran/Teddy Mark, Jordan Factor/Matt Wefer, Louis Padnos/Ben Spector, Luke Vreeland/Mike Lucciola, and Sarah Williams/Jane Rew. The conditions were primarily light and the male and female crews sailed against each other. Full results are available
